Held every year in Lanta Old Town during the first full moon of March, this festival is a rich celebration of the peaceful cultural diversity among the people of this unspoiled island. It's a chance for the various ethnic groups to say thanks to each other, displaying the best of their own art and customs to each other and to all visitors, who of course are welcomed with open arms. The 3-day event features traditional entertainments on stages, as well as a wide variety of local dishes, delicious snacks, traditional local coffee and other exotic drinks at over 50 food and beverage stalls. Performances of Rong-Ngen, the traditional music and dance of the ancient Sea Gypsies, can be enjoyed on the main stage, as well as acts presented by groups from all over Thailand. A second beachside stage offers more contemporary jazz and reggae music every night in a more relaxed atmosphere. Lanta Old Town's ambience is definitely something to see with its teakwood-lined streets and stilted restaurants that stand on the water. It has a real authentic Andaman island charm about it, and during the festival its beauty is enhanced by colourfully lit lanterns adorning the streets. Side-street cultural booths display and demonstrate the making of traditional arts and crafts including "Pa The", traditional Muslim cloth weaving, "Toi Pa Nun", a handicraft made from Toi leaves, and some local "Batik" painting.
