The Plearnwan Vintage Market, or Plearnwan Eco Vintage Village, is more than a themed open-air market, it looks more like a living museum where you can experience the atmosphere and charm of the good old days of Hua Hin. Established in 2009, Plearnwan is an eco friendly vintage village built with rusty tin pieces and wooden planks that wants to bring all the visitors back to the old lifestyle of the local community when they lived together with respect full of laughter, smiles and happiness. The name “Plearnwan” has its meaning where “Plearn” is a combination of “Play” and “Learn”, and “Wan” means “yesterday” in Thai. However, as the name suggests, Plearnwan is more than decorating the fixtures or just putting some vintage or antique furniture to be just like an old town. Plearnwan is really a place where people can actually learn, sense the difference and feel the nostalgia of good old lifestyle.As soon as you walk through the wooden door which gives access to the Plearnwan Vintage Market you enter in the past. The boutique shops, stalls and restaurants are housed in old wooden houses constructed from recycled wood and set along both side of the street. Inside the buildings, in addition to shopping and eating, you can take a break dedicated to relaxation and aesthetics, as there are a beauty salon and a massage. There is also an inner courtyard which is covered in artificial turf and a cinema that, keeping in theme, offers movies a few decades ago. The shops offer a wide choice of items ranging from clothes and accessories to handmade ceramics, cuts of fabric, antique silks and so on; also the restaurants offer menus with dishes of old rural tradition. Plearnwan is divided into four main areas as follows:
ZONE 1: This area represent the ‘front house’ to welcome everyone. There is an area nearby where people can sit while sipping their 100% Thai coffee from the local café. Next to this is an area full of traditional Thai desserts. Kanom Krok, Yok Manee, Kanom Tokyo, many of these are very rare to find in the marketplace nowadays but you can certainly find them here. In this very same area you will also find a noodle restaurant and a toy store.
ZONE 2: This zone is definitely for those who loves to stroll around. It hosts more than 40 retail shops and restaurants, as well as the Piman Plearnwan Hotel that is located on the upper deck of the entire second zone. Consisting of 20 rooms which are unique in style and character, this hotel reflects the lifestyle of the old community with exterior and interior designs that will take you back to the classic time.
ZONE 3: This is an area reserved for activities. The events are changed from time to time. The ongoing theme is a temple fair, which is similar to a carnival fair and consists of many games such as can throwing, balloon and dart and duck pond game to create liveliness and entertain the customers that visit Plearnwan.
ZONE 4: This is zone began from the intention of supporting Thai products and designers. It offers a selected shop that carries Thai designers’ items ranging from clothes and accessories to handmade ceramics. Moreover, there is a mini supermarket that carries Thai products, snacks, food and personal items made by the local community.
Opening time: Plearnwan Vintage Market is open daily from 10:00 to 22:00, until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
