Chaweng Beach is Samui's most popular and beautiful beach. Extending over a length of about 6 kilometers, it is also the largest and the most developed of island. Located on the northeast coast, Chaweng area is filled with plenty of shops, several supermarkets and malls, tourist agencies, restaurants, fast food, pubs and bars spread along the beachfront road. The area offers more accommodation options than elsewhere on the island to suit every budget. You can choose to stay in one of the many luxury hotels with pools, budget guesthouses or in one of the few resorts with bungalows that still are in this part of the island. A good part of the accommodations are located along the beach. As for the food, there is only the embarrassment of choice. With many restaurants scattered anywhere, the Thai, Italian, French and Indian cuisine are the most appreciated. In alternative, you can also choices to eat at Chaweng Night Market and Chaweng Walking Street Market. Both open from late afternoon to late in the night, offer a fantastic array of dining options, with plenty food stalls selling grilled chicken, squid, sticky rice and much more tasty Thai street food. Chaweng is also the center of Samui's lively nightlife, with a high concentration of bars, pubs and clubs. Comparable to Patpong in Bangkok or Bangla Road in Phuket, the famous Soi Green Mango is a succession of beer bars and pubs full of fascinating Thai girls in search of customers. However, there are also the more sophisticated cocktail bars located in front of beach. Chaweng Beach itself is essentially divided into three areas with different characteristics. The northern area is the most quiet and ideal for families, however shallow water make it less attractive for bathing, so most of resorts overlooking the sea have their own private pool to compensate. In the far north lies Koh Matlang, a small islet that offers excellent snorkeling options. Despite the unbridled development of recent years, the northern part remains a very picturesque place. The central stretch of beach is the most frequented by tourists, but also the most chaotic and therefore is certainly not ideal for those who love peace and tranquility. Instead, if you love the hectic beach life with a lot of fun in the water, like Jet Ski, this is the most suitable for you. In the evening, just before sunset, many restaurants and bars open entertainment areas on the beach with music. In the small tables and pillows placed directly on the sand you can enjoy a cocktail or a romantic dinner. The southern area named Chaweng Noi is the most beautiful and quiet, with a strtch of powdery white sand and crystal clear waters tending to emerald. Here the sea bottom is deeper, and is better suited to water sports. Beware when the sea is rough, mainly in October and November, the currents can be treacherous; check the flag to alert the possibility of bathing, blue is allowed, red is absolutely forbidden to swim. Animation along Chaweng Beach is guaranteed by various water activities. It’s possible have fun on Jet Ski, banana boat, parasailing, kayaking or sailing, as well as a pleasant horseback ride along the beach. For lazy people who like to spend the day lying on a comfortable sun bed, nothing is better than a traditional massage. Read More
