Koh Rok Snorkeling Tour

Take a speedboat from Koh Lanta to reach the crescent-shaped bay between Koh Rok Nok and Koh Rok Nai and admire the natural beauty of these small islands. Snorkel over fascinating coral reefs and see colorful tropical fish. Koh Rok Nok and Koh Rok Nai are two tiny islands located in the middle of Andaman Sea approximately 36 kilometres from mainland of Trang province, of which are part administratively. The twin islands are under protection of Mu Koh Lanta Marine National Park, in fact they lie only 27 km from Lanta's southernmost tip, and so they are also considered an attraction of Koh Lanta and Krabi. The charming islands have similar characteristics and dimensions, roughly two kilometres in length and one in width, and are separated by just a couple of hundred metres. The hilly interior is covered by lush vegetation. The western coast is indented with rocky headlands, while the eastern side is home of stunning white sand beaches surrounded by unbelievable turquoise waters. Among these Ao Man Sai Beach, on Koh Rok Nok, is the most charming. The shallow reef lies just off the beach shores. Teeming with marine life and with beautiful colourful corals, it offers great snorkelling and diving opportunities. On Koh Rok Nok, often reported as Koh Rok Noi, there is a small National Park Ranger Station and the few facilities available of both islands. These are limited at a small camping area with a few toilets, a small shop selling foodstuffs, snack, drink and essential items, and a shady dining area to share. However, there is no restaurant and food must be prepared by yourself. For camping on the island, or to book the few bungalows and tents available, you must contact the National Park authority at phone numbers: +66(0)75 629 018/9. The tents for rent cost 450 THB per night, up to four people, plus park fee; the bungalows per four people with private toilets should cost around 2,000 THB per night, but we are not sure about their cost. Few small foot paths, just jungle trek, allow reaching the Pha Samed Daeng and Thong Cape viewpoints from which, on a clear day, you can see Koh Lanta, Koh Ngai and Koh Libong. Koh Rok Nai, sometimes reported as Koh Rok Yai, features an outstanding diving area and a small waterfall, active only in the rainy season. Please note that these pristine islands are accessible only from October to May, while the best time is from January to mid-April.
Getting there: Koh Rok Nok and Koh Rok Nai are usually proposed by tour operators in Koh Lanta as full-day snorkelling tour. A 90-minute speedboat ride from Baan Saladan Pier is required to reach the islands. Due to the considerable distance, 40 km from the pier, it is better to avoid the economic excursions that involve long-tail boat trips. The majority of tours include the transfer by song-thaews or minivans from your hotel in Koh Lanta, the roundtrip by speedboat from Saladan Pier, the visit to both islands for swimming and snorkelling, lunch buffet, tropical fruit, drinking water, snorkelling equipment, life jacket, tour guide and insurance. Prices of tours range from 2,200 to 3,000 THB per person, depending on the tour operator. Normally the full-day tour includes the National Park fee entrance, 400 THB for adults and 200 THB for children. Pick up from your hotel in Lanta is at around 08:00, and the return is at around 17:00.
