Koh Bon

Koh Bon is a remote and isolated island between the Similan and the Surin archipelagos. Since 2001, the island was included in the Mu Ko Similan Marine National Park as tithing island. The island is located about 22 north of Koh Ba-Ngu, the northernmost of the original nine islands. Unlike all others Similan Islands, which are made up by granite, Koh Bon is a limestone island, and is one of the smaller islands of archipelago. There aren't beaches on island, but it still offers crystalline turquoise waters and beautiful coral reefs, which are ideal for diving. It has become famous for being one of the best places in Thailand to see the massive Manta Rays, especially from April to May, when come here to feed on Zooplankton, his favourite food, or be cleaned. The majestic animal is usually maintains a nearly stationary position on top of a coral patch for several minutes while to be cleaned by cleaner fish. Due to the remoteness from other Similan’s islands, Koh Bon has long been ignored by tour operators and therefore little visited by tourists, thus maintaining its natural beauty. In recent years it has been initially inserted in the diving cruises to the original nine Similan Islands or in diving day trips to the nearest Koh Tachai, both dive locations are at about one hour away by boats from Koh Bon. Currently there are no dedicated snorkelling day trips to the island, but if you want to try to snorkel with Manta Rays, difficult but still possible, you can enjoy the diving day trips to Koh Bon. Nevertheless it is good to know that, unlike the neighbouring Koh Tachai, Koh Bon is most suitable for experienced snorkellers, even better if you have done with diving partners.
