Thepprasit Night Market

Opened since 1999, Thepprasit Night Market is undoubtedly Pattaya’s largest and most popular night bazaar. Whether you want to do any kind of shopping or taste authentic Thai street food, it's definitely the best destination in the town and will not disappoint you. Also known as “Talad Thepprasit” or “Pattaya Weekend Market”, this Pattaya’s own mini version of the immense Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is more similar in style and size at the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai and is very popular with Thais and tourists alike. You can find Thepprasit Market close to the intersection of its namesake street with the Sukhumvit Road, just behind Outlet Shopping Mall and Tesco Lotus South Pattaya; it spreads over most of the parking area in front of the K-Hut Complex and is open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6pm until 10pm, although you could easily arrive at 5pm and find most stalls already trading. There are more than 350 stalls at the Thepprasit Market, plus a row of permanent shops, with the widest variety of goods in offer, such as clothes, shoes, jewellery, plants, handbag, t-shirts, shorts, jeans, cosmetics, souvenirs and much more. You can also find curious or pirated items like car parts, wigs, DVDs and CDs, fake watches, mobile phones and accessories, but also exotic pets and combat knifes that are illegal, so be careful before making a purchase. Prices of all goods on sale can be extremely cheap or relatively expensive; it all depends on your ability to bargain. Like any other Thai local market, a large part of the Thepprasit Night Market is dedicated to food. Set under the shelter of the metal roofs of the market’s permanent structures, the two rows of vendors sell every Thai street food you can think of, from skewers of shrimp or squid cooked on small barbecues, fresh fruit and juices, noodle soups, fried rice, Pad Thai and Som Tam to desserts and even fried insects. There are some plastic tables and chairs to sit and eat among sellers and stalls, or you can buy food to take away.
Opening time: Thepprasit Night Market is open only on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6pm until 10pm.
How to get there: the night bazaar is located in Thepprasit Road, just off Sukhumvit Road, about 1.3 kilometers south of the intersection with the Pattaya Tai Road. You can make your own way to the bazaar very cheaply, for a round trip cost of not more than 60 baht, if you take a shared blue songthaew till Sukhumvit Road. Once on Sukhumvit, take a shared white songthaew and ask the driver to stop between Outlet Shopping Mall and Tesco Lotus South Pattaya, then walk for about 5 minutes from the main road. Alternatively, you can take a taxi motorbike and just say “Talad Thepprasit”. From South, North or Central Pattaya, the fare for a one-way trip is about 100 Baht.
