Nai Harn Beach extends along one of the most charming and quiet bays on Phuket Island, just to the north of Promthep Cape and next to Rawai fisherman village. Situated 48 kilometres to the south of International Airport and 18 kilometres from Phuket Town, the beach provides a stunning spot on the island's southern tip and is very popular among expats and locals, but large enough to never be too crowded and noisy. The white and fine sand stretches for almost a kilometre and is surrounded by quiet turquoise-blue crystalline waters, making it one of the best beaches in Phuket to swim and snorkelling during the high season, contrariwise from May to October the sea can be very dangerous and unsuitable for swimming. Remember to always check if the red flag is up before going in the water, and if it is flying the swimming is not only discouraged is absolutely forbidden. However throughout the monsoon season, the sea around the northern end can be a great spot for body boarding if the waves are not large, while the southern end becomes one of island's best spot for surfers. Along the central part of the beach there are two rows of sun loungers, which can be hired for about 100 baht per day. Snorkelling equipment can be hired by beach sellers. During the high season kayaks are also available, while there are no jet-ski and banana boats to disturb the quiet atmosphere. Behind the beach, settled under a row of shady trees, there are a few local restaurants provides Thai and seafood dishes and refreshing drinks. The southern end of the beach is traversed by a small stream coming from the huge salt water lagoon situated across the road, which empties and fills with the tide. With The Royal Phuket Yacht Club nearby, during the high season Nai Harn bay is a favourite spot to anchor for sailing boats and luxury yachts, as this area is well protected from the winds and waves by a large headland to the north and a smaller headland to the south. On the top of southern headland is perched the Windmill Viewpoint that offers stunning views of Nai Harn and Ya Nui beaches and Koh Man, the tiny island situated to the right of Promthep Cape. In addition to attracting tourists and amateur photographers, Windmill Viewpoint is the favourite destination for paragliding enthusiasts who jump from the hill and then flutter above the bay brought by the wind.
