Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong, formally named Wat Chaithararam, is the most important and sacred of the 29 Buddhist temples scattered around Phuket Island. It was the residence of Luang Po Cham, a respected monk which has helped island's people during the rebellion of 1876, at the time of King Rama V. The statue of Luang Po Chaem is now in the main room of temple with the statues of Luang Po Chuang and Luang Po Kluem, other two venerable monks who resided in the temple in later years. Poh Than Jao Wat is one of the most important Buddhist statues in Wat Chalong. It is located in the old west hall of the temple, with two statues of an old man called Ta Khee-lek, a famous Thai that has won many lotteries after consultation with the statue of Poh Than Jao Wat. The Great Pagoda that dominates the temple contains a silver box that preserves a bone relic of Buddha, it is officially called Phramahathatchedi-Jomthaibarameepragat. In an air-conditioned room there are the statues in wax, in real size, of Luang Poh Cham, Luang Poh Chuang, Luang Poh Gleum, and Luang Pu Thuad.Read More
