BTS Wongwian Yai

Wongwian Yai BTS Station is skytrain station on the Silom Line in Khlong San District. The station is located on Krung Thon Buri Road is about 2 km to the west of Taksin Bridge, on the Chao Phraya River's west bank. Opened from 15 May 2009, together with Krung Thon Buri Station it was the first station of Bangkok's rapid transit system on the Thonburi side of capital. The surrounding area is a dense residential neighbourhood, with many residences, food markets and small shops, as well as a large Robinsons Department store close to station. Tourist attractions include King Taksin the Great Monument, which can be found at the main roundabout located just a a few hundred meters north, and Wongwian Yai Railway Station, an historical commuter railway terminal disconnected from the rest of the country's railways. The small local line runs for 67 km between Wongwian Yai and Samut Songkhram, at southwest of the capital. The line consists of two sections separated by the Tha Chin River, which you must cross by boat. The Mahachai Line runs between Wongwian Yai and Samut Sakhon with 18 stations, while the Ban Laem Line runs between Samut Sakhon and Mae Klong Railway Station in Samut Songkhram with 15 stations. Samut Songkhram has become famous thanks to its Mae Klong Railway Market, and the spread of its video posted on You Tube.
