Freedom Beach

Located just south of Patong, Freedom Beach is a hidden jewel on the west coast of Phuket. The stunning 250m-long strip of soft white sand is set in a small secluded cove dotted with polished granite rocks and surrounded by steep hills covered by dense and lush jungle. The tiny beach overlooks shallow crystalline waters of an incredible turquoise colour that are ideal for safe swimming, its southern end is also one of Phuket's best snorkelling spots, where you will find a lot of spectacular colourful tropical fish swimming near the shore. Freedom is a secluded beach where you will find peace and tranquility, unlike the main beaches of Phuket, you will find no motorized water activity. Sun loungers are setting at backside of the beach under the shade of the palm trees, and will cost you 140 baht per day. There are't accommodation available at Freedom Beach, the "One ‘n’ Only Restaurant & Bar" is the only facility on the beach. Located at the southern end, the smal restaurant is shaded by palms and pergolas, and offers a good choice of Thai favourites and a few international dishes. The meals might be slightly more expensive comparated to usual prices due to the difficult accessibility. Showers and toilets are available next to restaurant. Ultimately, Freedom Beach is probably the island's most beautiful beach, a small corner of tropical paradise where you can spend a relaxing day away from the crowd.
Getting to the beach - The exclusive charm of Freedom Beach also derives from its rather difficult accessibility. Nowadays, there are no roads that allow access to the beach, and no construction is planned in the future. Therefore, the best way to get to the beach is by the sea with a long-tail boat that can be rented to the jetty at the southern end of Patong Beach. The trip lasts only 10 minutes and costs between 1,100 to 1,500 Baht for the round trip per the whole boat. Negotiate on the price, because they usually make up the price according to your appearance. Alternatively, there are two small dirty paths leading to the parking located about 200 meters above the bay. The shorter one starts from the Muen-Ngern Road leading to Paradise Beach: at the southern end of Patong Bay, follow the road that climbs up the hill, turn left at Amari Coral Beach Resort, pass in front of Baan Yin Dee Resort and, at the bottom of the hill, turn on the left toward Avista Hideaway Resort which is 700m away from parking. The other one starts from Sirirat Road just before the top of Patong's southern hill: on the road from Patong to Karon Beach the path is on the right just in front of Patong Cliff Inn and Khon Liang Chang Congee Bistro. Arriving at the parking lot, to park and access the beach, you will have to pay a fee of 200 Baht per person to the owners of the surrounding land. As many know, in Thailand private beaches are unlawful, but if the entire land around it belongs to someone, that someone has the right to give access or not.
