Berlin Beats with Rocco Universal

Bangkok's longest running monthly house and techno event is back at GLOW with our November edition, this month with Rocco Universal from Leng Records and Kolour Recordings. Born in Italy, raised in the UK, and currently lost in a haze of psychedelic rhythms somewhere in Bangkok, Rocco Universal (real name Patrizio Cavaliere) has been crate-digging and playing records for two decades. His passion for all kinds of good music spawned an enthusiasm for analogue synthesisers and retro production techniques which he's been diligently honing in the studio in recent years. His sound threads influences from disco, italo, Chicago house and Detroit techno into tracks that effortlessly layer thick baselines and rich melodies. It’s these same raw, tripped out disco, house and techno flavours that characterise his dynamic DJ sets too. 2016 saw his debut releases under the Rocco Universal moniker on highly acclaimed labels Leng and ISM. Previously releasing records under his real name on German label Movida, gaining support from artists such as Osunlade, Nick Curly, Ivan Smagghe, Doc Martin, and Ashley Beedle. He’s also held down residencies and guest appearances for influential promoters like Secretsundaze and Good Times, and has rocked clubs worldwide, from Ibiza to Mexico and Germany to Taiwan. Back in 2002 he set up Also Ran Records, releasing music from artists including Martin Dawson, OCH, Liquid People and Danism, as well as his own collaborations with Tom Neville recorded as Francisco the Man. Supporting Rocco on the night will be our resident selector The Outsider, making sure the floor is on fire with his trademark sound of dub infused house and techno before handing the controls over.
