The first Full Moon Party was improvised by no more than 30-40 travelers at Paradise Bungalows in 1985. They arranged a party along the crescent-shaped beach of Haad Rin to celebrate the full moon night. From then on, the party has gained fame and people from all over the world come to Koh Pha-Ngan each full moon evening just to join the celebration. Nowadays, the event draws a crowd of about 10,000 party-goers in low season, from 15,000 to 25,000 during high season and up to 35,000 at New Year's event. The party begins at dusk and runs until the sun rises the next day. At twilight, plenty of small tables are lined up on the 800-meter-long sunrise beach of Haad Rin and thousands of lamps are lit. The bars lined along the beach features over 12 main sound systems and play music such as psychedelic trance, techno, R&B, drum and bass, house, commercial dance and reggae, no-one is disappointed.
